SAORI Weaving and Peace

In May, 2007, Terri is inviting people on Salt Spring Island to contribute to a Peace Banner. This banner will be taken to Hiroshima for an exhibit at the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum in August 2007 - "SAORI Peace Weave 2007". You will find the Peace Banner at the I-SEA Office (124 Lower Ganges Road) from 10-2 on Wednesdays ("Peace, Art & Sustainability Wednesdays") and at Island Savings from Noon - 4pm on Friday, May 18 or contact Terri to have the loom brought to your meeting or gathering.

SAORI Studios around the world are making banners. Drop-in and add some threads of peace to the Salt Spring Banner.

In 2006 Terri went to the World Peace Forum with a SAORI loom and facilitated the weaving of a Peace Banner. This 30-foot long banner was woven over 3 days in various locations in Vancouver by over 100 people. It had a rainbow warp and many colours and textures of yarn for people to weave with. Most of the contributors to the banner had never woven before.

People who had done some weaving before, enjoyed trying a new approach to weaving. Everyone loved the metaphor of bringing together the threads of many colours, woven by many hands into a community expression of peace.
