Page history last edited by Caffyn 3 yrs ago

Michael Nurse was born and raised in Saskatchewan and the stark but beautiful prairie landscape has instilled a love of the subtle and the sublime. Michael attended the University of Saskatchewan where he achieved a Bachelors of Agriculture in Horticulture. Simultaneously he developed his art practice through involvement with various artist run centers and galleries. Michael worked with Wayne Baerwaldt of the Plug In Gallery (now the Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art) to bring the interactive performance art piece “The World Tea Party” to the Pan Am Games in Winnipeg, Mb. in 1998 and to Los Angeles, Ca. in 1999. In 2002 Michael did an artist’s residency at St. Norbert’s Arts Center in Manitoba, helping develop a long-term sustainable site plan for the 5-acre site. He also did a 3-month curatorial internship at the Plug In Gallery in 2002. In September 2004 Michael curated “Idle” a survey of contemporary 20th century furniture design at the Art Gallery of Calgary. Michael is currently living and working on Salt Spring Island, BC, where he is building his dream studio. He is curating an art show for the Islands Institute online gallery.
